When your car makes it into the workshop, the body repairer carries out a complete and thorough inspection. This is so that the repairer can accurately identify what is wrong with your vehicle. Oftentimes, even a minor accident can cause structural damage that can’t be noticed without a proper inspection.
This is necessary because you don’t want your vehicle to start malfunctioning a few weeks after you get it back from the repairer, as oftentimes, insurance companies won’t be able to tell if these problems are caused by the accident or standard wear and tear, and when this occurs they’re going to assume it’s wear and tear.
You shouldn’t have to pay for damage that your insurance covers, which is why it’s important to have this inspection performed thoroughly by an experienced repairer. Make sure you are issued with this report before any repairs start, so that you have a copy for your own records.
Insurance Company Report
After the inspection is completed, we contact the insurance company. They are issued with the same damage report as you and told exactly what is damaged and what needs fixing. Some insurance companies will request that used parts are used, from a similar model of vehicle to the one being repaired, which comes with its own issues. In a nutshell, the insurance company is going to want the repairs performed as quickly and as cheaply as possible. Sometimes used parts work fine, and other times it’s going to cause issues for your vehicle.
Good smash repairers work with the insurance company to get the best result possible. Perfect Edge Smash Repairs have our claims teams working for you and with your insurer so that you don’t have to worry about this balancing act.
Sometimes a vehicle is so damaged, it would cost more money to fix than its current value. If this happens, the insurance company simply credits you an amount of money equal to the current market value of that make and model, or whatever you cover stipulates. You can then use this money to buy yourself a replacement vehicle.
But, you might still have a decision to make. You might be offered the option to have the car worked on by the panel beater, if you decide to choose “some used parts” as an option.
Trusting your panel beater here is imperative, if a good panel beater thinks that the vehicle is a write-off, attempting to cut corners to get it fixed could be dangerous.
Perfect Edge Smash Repairs deal with insurance companies all the time. We understand the entire system and our goal is to make the whole process as stress-free as possible.
